A Guide For Beginning Readers For Kindergarten

By Christine Evans

Most kids begin reading at a very young age, probably younger than most of us may expect. At this age they easily pick up and memorize words which they may have frequently seen. During this process it is important for their guardians to give them the correct tools to guide them to become effortless readers. For beginning readers for kindergarten, this is important step as this greatly boosts their confidence.

It has already been established that the childs mastery is higher on frequently seen words therefore the tutor needs to be armed with the right tools. Sight words are the most fundamental. These are simple structured words that are easy to grasp. Words like look, sit, run, jump are all in this category. The words can be written in flash card and given at intervals to the kids.

In the early stages a tutor should put more stress on the phonetics rather than the actual letters. By doing this the child quickly learns to associate sounds with the letters used in the word. Phonetics will aid the children in reading of more words with ease even if they have not encountered it before. In addition to that the kid also learns some basic phonetic rules like the silent letters.

The fundamental rule the tutor should observe is that the book should have a captivating storyline. It is essential that the kid does not get bored in this journey. Writing is a skill and so a tutor has a responsibility to ensure the kid has access to the best of all books only. It is essential for this book to repeat the word in a continuous rhythm fashion.

In this level the kid can be slowly introduced to the early reader book series. The key to selecting the piece is that it should be captivating or else the kid will get bored and eventually get tired of the process so fast. The tutor has a responsibility to select the appropriate book for the kid. A simple guide is that the book should have repetitive words yet simple format. They should be easily understood. Some of the books recommended include:

Ted Arnolds I Spy Fly Guy. In this book buzz and fly guy who are playing hide and seek, get into trouble when fly guy hides in a garbage can and the garbage collectors take the can with them. What then happens to the fly guy? Such a hilarious book that will leave your kid in stitches not to forget it has beautifully arranged drawing layout, leaving your kid in need for more.

Tales For The Very Picky Eaters is another impeccable book in the kindergarten series. Picky eaters are not the only people who will find the book nostalgic of the good old days. Jamess dad tells an imaginative story to his son for why he should try all foods at his sight. The book has small chapters and it is advisable to read one chapter if the kid is still in mastery stage.

Finally, We Are in A Book is another title that cannot go unmentioned. This book is very engaging to the young kids. Surprisingly enough it can be used by kids in different stages of progress.
